Are you into geocaching?  One of my staff-members was hiking in the Hamlin Garland Wildlife Area last week when she stumbled upon a geocache. When she did a little research, we discovered that there are 770 geocaches hidden within 25 miles of the Blue Belle Inn. (Our zip code is 50472 and we’re in Mitchell County if you’d like to check it out.) According to http://www.geocaching.com/, geocaching is a real-life treasure hunt that’s happening all the time, all around you.  There are 6 million geocachers worldwide. It’s a great way to enjoy nature, and get to know an area better while having fun and getting exercise.

Some of the cache clues in North Iowa are named Prairie Playground, Skirt-Lifter, Big Blue North, Watertower Park, and Water, Water, Everywhere. Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? For all I know, there could be a geocache hidden right here on the grounds of the Blue Belle Inn.
